Installing Vinyl Siding Over Asbestos

Is it ok to cover asbestos siding with vinyl siding?
We haven’t gotten any estimates yet, but I’ve heard it costs a lot to have asbestos siding removed, so I was wondering if we could have vinyl siding installed over it. The old siding is in pretty good shape, no major cracks or anything, it just looks really old.
Well, asbestos isn’t harmful if it’s in solid form, but when the particles get in the air, inhaling them can result in lung cancer. If the asbestos siding is rubbing on a surface and the particles are released into the air, it will be dangerous for your health. But as long as the siding is not “powdery” where the dust can be inhaled… it should be alright.
