Removing Asbestos Plaster

what kind of home insulation was commonly used in the late 1800’s?
I live in a historical section in connecticut and reciently putting in sheetrock (we are removing the old plaster and lattis boards
) underneath we had found some unidentifeid blown insulation grey in matter; I was wondering what was comminly used back then and if asbestos was a possibility in home insulation back in the 1800’s
It is probably Rockwool.
