Loose Fill Asbestos

loose fill asbestos
Does anyone know if loose fill asbestos insulation was used in attics during the late 1960s or early 1970s?

I found some gray insulation protruding below the entry way to the attic and was concerned that it may be asbestos. I’ve already done some research and discovered that there is something called rock wool that looks very similiar to loose fill asbestos. I was just wondering if any of you guys in the building trades might have any knowledge about what this stuff might be. Also, I have observed that they covered this loose fill gray stuff with blown in fiberglass (yellow and pink coloration). I know without a doubt that what I have described to you guys is definitely not cellulose btw.

More than likely it’s rock wool.
You could check with your county health dept. for a testing agency near you.
Or bag up a small amount and show to some experienced builders for opinions.
It’s hard to be helpful without a visual.
