Does Linoleum Have Asbestos

What is the best way to take up 50 year old linoleum off of hardwood floor?
My house was build in 1952 and I am removing the 3-4 layers of linoleum to expose the hardwood floor underneath in my kitchen (my puppy started tearing the linoleum so I decided to take it up). The main thing that I am worried about is that I have read several articles on-line and they say that there could be asbestos in the glue or linoleum. In addition to this I need to know what the best way is to get the black adhesive up off the wood floor without ruining it. What if it does have asbestos in it?
The only sure way is to have it tested. However lino is usually a natural product – linseed oil, wood flour and jute backing – but some thermoplastic vinyls certainly contained asbestos fillers. The adhesive is usually bitumen based. Over 3000 different types of building material contained asbestos so you are right to be concerned.
You should ask a specialist asbestos removal company for advice and a quotation as you need to dispose of it properly. You may be able to get advice from your local authority. As you indicate it is alredy damaged you should act sooner rather than later.
