Adhesive Question?

I’m ripping up old tile in my bathroom which has some black nasty, old adhesive that was used. Today, when I went to strip the wood that covers one of the walls, I saw the same black stuff. This may be a lame question but…what is it? Is it some old stuff that contains lead or asbestos that isn’t used anymore that I need to have tested or stress on? Something that should not be sanded off, perhaps? Any suggestions on removing this without destroying my wall?

It is called Mastic. It a tar like adhesive. Hard to remove, involves scrapeing and chipping. No lead or asbestos to worry about.

It sounds like you’re getting stonewalled. There are certain things that are public information. Go personally to the division of the court that handles wills and probate and ask to see the file with your dad’s will in it. Don’t tell them who you are or why you want to see it. Some courts even have information about court cases on the internet. Go to the site for your county and see what you can find there. If nothing works, do what reporters do when they can’t get information. Use the freedom of information act. If any court only indexes cases only by docket number and not by name, it would be a very inefficient court.
