Asbestos Is The Leading Cause Of Mesothelioma – What You Need To Know

Exposure to asbestos typically does not lead to health issues until 10 to 60 years afterward, so many cases have yet to be discovered. The material was widely used in the 60s and 70s in many construction projects, so scientists expect a sharp rise in diagnoses in the next several years.

Smoking has not been determined to be a cause of mesothelioma, and it is not genetically inherited. Most physicians agree that inhalation of the asbestos fibers must have occurred in order to develop the disease.
