Chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, tremolite, anthophyllite, and actinolite are the six types of REGULATED asbestos. Asbestos is the name for the general mineral family. They are all naturally occuring minerals that just differ a little in their mineral makeup. Of the three types, chrysotile is the most commonly found (80-90%), amosite would be next (10-20%), and crocidolite the least found (<10%). The others are rarely found and when you find them they are usually associated with boilers or high temperature gaskets. Amosite and crocidolite are the most dangerous.
The percentages you find will vary by what country you are in and for what the material was used. Household sources will be mostly chrysotile.

My husband died from asbestosis contracted when he was between 21 and 25 in the Merchant Navy. The disease does not show itself until much later. He was in his 70’s when it was diagnosed. It is inflammation of the lungs which is caused from inhalation of asbestos particles. Mesothelioma is a tumour of the lining of the lungs or another organ again with the same initial cause.
