Are All Popcorn Ceilings Asbestos
Am I at risk?
All right. So I am a product of 1985. I lived in two suburban houses that had popcorn ceilings for the first 11 years of my life.
One house was build in 1978?
The second was built in 1989, I believe.
Straight up, do you think either popcorn ceiling contained asbestos?
popcorn ceiling is just a way of painting the ceiling. so it’s a paint issue, and asbestos is more of an insulation issue. i don;t know the exact date people became aware of the asbestos threat, but as a product of 1986 i can tell you that after 1990 real estate appraisers were on the lookout for such things. so if the houses were bought after 1990, probably not. before 1990, maybe.
